Our previous WordCamp Hong Kong was held in 2019, and it was an enormous success, drawing attendees from various corners of the globe. However, in 2020, due to the unprecedented circumstances brought about by the pandemic, we made the difficult decision to forego organizing another event to ensure the safety and well-being of our attendees and community.
In mid-2023, we decided to bring WordCamp back to Hong Kong. We have drawn attendees from Mainland China, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, and Taiwan. 80 WordPress enthusiasts gathered on a cool Saturday to learn from the speakers and one another. After the talks, we had some fun time in a restaurant nearby to mingle and have some good food.
In this WordCamp, we introduced a timeslot for Lightning Talks for any interested WordPress enthusiasts to precent their topics to the captive audience. Apart from letting the speakers to talk about their own stories and interested areas, these talks give the audience a chance to learn about interesting topics that are normally not allowed for official presentations. Although we did not have a lot of applicants for Lightning Talks, the talks turned out to be useful and/or entertaining.
